A little over 2 weeks ago our boy started to drink massive amounts of water and peed massive amounts of pee…..time to see the vet. After initial blood test we saw that his kidney tests were too high and his glucose levels as well. We changed his diet right away, completely stopped hard food to provide better nutrition for his kidneys with some carbs in the form of a cooked mix of rice, carrots, zucchini, chicken and eggs! Combined with a bit of canned food for taste, but we are hoping to get him away from this in the future as well.
We had to wait two weeks for a follow up test to see where the results where heading, so, to help with his Glucose levels we tried a natural way with pure Karela juice. (it seemed to have helped a little bit, but we can’t be sure).
Follow up test confirmed diabetes and his kidneys are compromised. So now we are on that journey with insulin to stabilize him and than focus on his kidneys.
Wish us luck!
The reason for this blog came from sheer anxiety and stress of how to deal with all of this, worry about our sweet boy and trying to reach out to parents of furry children who might have had the same things to deal with. Please do share with us anything that might help, or just to connect…..we would love to hear from you!
