Day 2 – Insulin

A little recap from yesterday, day 1…..what a roller-coaster! It was a rough one on all of us; not even mentioning Obi’s poor ears!

After the vet gave his first shot we went home and finally Obi received some late breakfast which he eat like a hungry wolf. The first reading at the vet was really good and we started the day hopeful, but than we went for a glucose dive…..all the way down to LO, which means so low the meter could’n measure. That happened twice during the day.

Obi received some honey to get his glucose up a bit and than we went from a high to a low again……it was very worrisome as he stopped taking food and no water. Just pretty much slept all day. Vet requested last reading at 11:30 at night and finally we got a result we felt ok with and went to sleep.

Obi at that point had had it with our sad attempts to poke his ear by hand and get enough blood for the reading. But I’m happy to report that we feel, after practicing on leaves and foil samples, more confident.

And this morning’s reading went much faster and less annoying to Obi and where back to expected results for the diabetes at 14.8mml/L

It was clear pretty fast that this low dose was still too much for Obi and now the Vet is looking for the most tiniest syringes, 0.3ml, to be able to half the dose and deliver it properly.

So today we rest and let the boys run free in the garden and safe the ears for when we can try again, hopefully tomorrow.

Today just lots of cuddles and recovery!
