It’s Sunday morning and we are off with first glucose reading, which was at 11.4 mmol/L and our first ever Insulin shot we gave ourselves. Let’s just say it was less than ‘professional’, but we will get there.
Found a great link on the Feline Diabetes from the Cornell Feline Health Center: https://www.vet.cornell.edu/departments-centers-and-institutes/cornell-feline-health-center/health-information/feline-health-topics/feline-diabetes

Obi had a nice breakfast, rice/protein homemade mix and some cooked chicken with broth, right after and went about his usual cat stuff. Today both are inside to make the glucose testing every 3 hours easier. 😉
Been doing more research online and came across 2 great FB groups, one I’m waiting to be approve, and on the other one already received some helpful advise.
Cat Health – This group was designed so that we can help each other get to the root of health issues and to become more aware of potential health issues in cats.
Feline Chronic Kidney Disease – This group is one that gives advice and support for kidney disease (also PKD) around the clock. And I was told it has members that have cats with the same combo, diabetes & kidney disease.
We just had our second reading for today at 11.7 mmol/L and the vet is happy! Obi had some lunch and now both are having an early afternoon nap!

My biggest hope is that we will be able to manage with one shot a day in the morning and that it will stabilize to the point that we can stop them.
But I’m jumping ahead….one day at a time right now.
In the meantime checking out a book that was recommended:
Your Cat: Simple New Secrets to a Longer, Stronger Life, by Elizabeth M. Hodgkins
Think I will get that as it sounds interesting and at this point, all can help gather more knowledge!
After another nap, lunch and some chasing around the house, we took another reading, which was a bit on the higher side than the first two, at 19.7 mmol/L. Now Obi is supervising and overlooking my updates.

We have 2 more readings to do today and after inspecting Obi’s ears I think I need to learn to aim a bit better…haiya!
After the last two readings the Vet decided to up the dose a little bit as all results where a bit too high over the day. So we’ll do that in the morning!
Good night
